Sunday 1st April
At Cycle Sport South Hams, we believe that our area has some of the most beautiful and challenging cycling in the Uk. The Hammer is a new, non-commercial event with 25% of all entry fees going to Diabetes Uk. It is the perfect way to start your year and gauge your early season fitness.
The Hammer is a challenging cyclosportive through the quiet roads and country lanes of South Devon. We have designed a route of 130kms within the South Hams, that features the beauty of the South Devon coast line, sheltered river valleys and picturesque South Devon lanes. With over 2600m of climbing and only around 5km of flat road, the challenge of The Hammer is only matched by the spectacular scenery

Two great rides in our very back garden! A 100km ride and a full on 100 mile sportive with plenty of hills. For those not wanting to cycle there will be a busy events village with music and entertainment in Exmouth. All of this takes place on Sunday 8th July! Any questions just ask away. It would be great to see the SVCC colours out in force!

BANK HOLIDAY RIDE

There was a good turnout as riders met up and headed out from Sidmouth Town football ground. Cyclists joined and left, depending on family commitments and time limitations, as a core of ten riders headed towards Bickleigh. The ride started in bright sunshine but towards Killerton the sky darkened from the West. When the downpour hit, sanctuary would have been requested at Killerton House, had it had been open, but, instead, temporary shelter was found under a bus stop in Silverton. A five minute delay and then the riders continued to the tea stop at Bickleigh Mill. Following a brief photo-shoot to record the outing, good fare was obtained and a second shower avoided before the group returned to the road and headed for Tiverton. Passing the canal basin, a short, sharp climb was followed by a winding descent through the hamlet of Brithen Bottom to Cullompton. Gradually the group dwindled as riders departed on various routes home and Neil decided to take the final four brave souls up the climb from Gittisham to the Hare and Hounds, Neil himself suffering from a slow puncture. Did the increased weight, caused by the exotic bacon butty he had consumed, play a part in this? We will never know! Clive was collected from the Hare and Hounds (having only recently realising he was actually on-call for work) and whilst Neil made his way over the top towards Seaton, the others dropped back down in to Sidmouth.
A pleasant start to 2012 and thanks to all those to went out. |
