This is the second staging of a
cross-country mountain bike challenge in memory of Richard Mallett,
former Sid Valley Cycling Club founder member, who died of cancer in
2004.
To those who knew him Richard was
the epitome of the all-round cycle enthusiast: mountain bike off-roader,
time-triallist, mechanic and a fount of knowledge in all aspects of the
sport.
The course covers much of Richard's
best-loved mountain bike country and will appeal to race enthusiasts and
families alike, taking in Woodbury Common, East Hill and some
spectacular views of the district. |
|
Riders
will have the choice of three testing routes.
|
Short Route: This year
we're keeping the Short route entirely on the Common. It's also slightly
shorter than last year but we think it's a harder ride due to the fact
that there's very little tarmac riding. Distance: 30Km Time to ride: Approx.
2 - 4 hours. |
|
| Moderate Route: The
moderate route is a challenging ride initially following the Short route
around the great new Common course then towards Sidmouth and Mutters
Moor, Harpford Woods, Tipton St John and back to Bicton Via Venn Ottery.
Distance: 50Km Time to ride: Approx.
3 - 6 hours. |
|
 |
|
|
| Hard Route: A route
planned for the rider who likes to go that little bit further. We advise
that only experienced riders attempt this route. This route follows most
of the Moderate route but in addition you get to sample a great new
section on East Hill. This is a tough ride and not to be underestimated. Distance:
70Km Time to ride: Approx. 4 - 7 hours. |
