Paignton Regatta Races - 03/09/07

Showing the benefits of their coaching sessions at Westpoint and being encouraged by the large crowd watching their race two Sid Valley youngsters put in strong rides at the recent Paignton Regatta Circuit Races.

Karla Hodson, riding in the Under 10’s race found tough competition from two Mid-Devon riders but held on for a good third place.

Laura Clode, in the Under 12’s, dictated the race from start to finish, attacking at half distance and coming in alone with a comfortable gap.

Both riders were urged on by a good vocal support from their families and are showing promising signs for the future.

Their next scheduled races are at Westpoint on Saturday 15th September. Any support would be welcome. Racing commences at 1400 and continues through to 1700.

Another Club Record Falls ! - 30/08/07

James Jackson and Karl Hodson rode the last 25 mile time trail hosted by Mid Devon Cycling club on Sunday the 26th August. The conditions were near perfect especially against what we now have seen as a summer.

This was James’s first TT at this distance and put in a very strong ride in to finish in a time of 1.03:14, 42nd position out of 65 riders who rode. This strong performance has made him determine to try more TT’s at this distance next year.

Karl who this year has broken ALL Club records continues his success this year with another PB of 54:48 an average speed of 27.6 mph over the 25 mile on the S4/25 course. Finishing 5th over all and first Vet. Julius Jennings 2 seconds behind with Phil Borrett who rode for Sid Valley last year finished 11th with a time of 55:31.

The long standing club records which Karl has broken this year are;

10 miles – 21:48

25 miles – 54:48

50 miles – 1.56:24

10 miles/2 up – 20:44 with Adrian Clode

July 12th 2up TT - 31/07/07

Two Sid Valley riders rode to victory in the Plymouth Corinthian two up team time trial on the S4/10. Adrian Clode and Karl Hodson rode for the first time together in an amazing time of 20:44, beating their nearest rivals from the Royal Navy & Royal Marines Cycling Association by the best part of half a minute.

They must be MAD!

Adrian Clode and Karl Hodson two Riders from the South West District Champion Team squad rode the second 50 mile TT on the 22nd July hosted by Mid Devon Cycling Club. The weather was greatly improved from the last event with near perfect conditions.

Both riders started of with heavy legs but Karl soon got into the rhythm whilst Adrian couldn’t quite get zoned in and also suffered a slow puncture.

At the half way split Lee Sanderson from the RNRMCA was 52 seconds in front of Adrian but he pulled him back in on the second leg to finish 8th overall, just over a minute from a 16-year old PB with 2-01-52. Karl also had a the same situation with Steven Sage from North Devon Wheelers who had an edge of 3 seconds over Karl but manage to overhaul Steven in the last leg to finish 3rd also with a PB and Sid Valley club record of 1:56:24, 24 seconds in front of Steven who finished 4th.
