Cyclo-Cross Update 29/10/07 Several Sid Valley riders have been competing in the South West Cyclo-Cross League this season. This series continues to grow in popularity with fields averaging around 40 in the Senior/Vet/Junior races. After 4 events we are half way through the series but all the major tests are still to come, starting with the Inter-Area Team Champs next Sunday at Misterton Hall in Leicestershire. Two Sid Valley riders have been selected for this event. Adrian Clode, who currently leads the Veterans Category in the league, is team leader for the Veterans team, and Laura Clode rides for the Youth team. Laura has found it tough going this season as she now has to compete on the full adult course over 30 minutes after having only had to race for 10-15 minutes in the Under 12 Category over a shortened course. Karla Hodson, who is still in the Under 10 Category, has ridden consistently to currently holding 2nd overall. Two new faces this season are James Jackson, who is improving rapidly with a 10th place at Kingsbridge last week and 17th overall, and Steve Challiner who rode the first two rounds with a 29th and 26th place. The remaining 4 rounds are all reasonably local to us and are as follows:-
The format for most of these is:-
Entry On the Line except 2nd December which is the Southern Area Champs and has to be entered by 19th November and timings are different. See the www.britishcycling.org.uk website for more details and entry forms. These events are ideal for all levels of rider and you can use any bike, it doesn’t matter if you are lapped as you finish the same lap as the winner, and you might even get muddy, although so far this season it’s been like riding in the desert! Support would be most welcome, especially at Escot where Neil Tubbs would appreciate any assistance either on the day or helping to set the course on the Saturday. So if you are not riding come and marshall or help on the day. Any other info on Cyclo-Cross feel free to contact Adrian Clode 01395 513389 |
