The Dartmoor Devil
109km cycling event starting from Bovey Tracey. Controls at Chagford and Princetown, plus 1 information control.
A scenic ride that criss-crosses Dartmoor, with big views and big hills. Soup control in Chagford, café control at Princetown plus a cake checkpoint.
Test yourself on one of the classic gold Grimpeur rides. Starting with free pre-ride coffee in Bovey Tracey, the ‘gateway to Dartmoor’, and climbing onto the high moor via pretty villages, narrow lanes, steep hills and a soup stop. The Devil finishes back in Bovey Tracey after visiting Widecombe and tackling the lovely-but-a-bit-evil alternative to the famous Widecombe Hill, via Bonehill Rocks. The soup and roll are included, but bring some change for the control at Fox Tor Café and the cake checkpoint (donations in aid of Devon Air Ambulance). Cycling Weekly recently included the Dartmoor Devil in its list of top ten audaxes to challenge yourself with. Although a tough ride, the atmosphere is relaxed and Halloween related fancy-dress is welcome. Places are only available at the start if the event is not full. Entries on the line are charged at £12 (plus £3 insurance for non AUK/CTC members). There are two start options: the Dartmoor Devils @8 and @9. Choose your preferred event and if it is full you will be moved to the other start.
